Chitra Dasgupta

Chitra Dasgupta lives in Kolkata, India. She lived in Hyderabad for 34 years. She is mother, grandmother, poet/writer, and artist. She designs hand-painted Kurtas.

On stage, she has played Raani Raashmoni, Indu in Shesh Rokkha, and leading roles in Thaana Thekey Aashchee and Ulka , and Kinu’s wife in Manoj Mitra’s Kinu Kaharey Tha-ter.

Last Puja, she wrote, directed and starred in a play in her complex of flats at Dum Dum, Kolkata. The central theme of the play was around how a group of middle-class housewives find their voice and successfully take on an issue that impacted their daily lives – the cleanliness and maintenance of the common areas of the flats. Impact? The flats now sport posters of various deities in areas favored by the paan-spitters!
